Fed extends Regulation O insider lending proposal comment period

October 9, 2026

On October 2, the Fed announced that it will extend by 30 days the comment period on its proposal to update Regulation O, which governs loans by member banks to their insiders and insiders of their affiliates. Among other things, the proposal would raise the dollar-based thresholds governing extensions of credit by banks to their “insiders” and would index those thresholds going forward (previously covered by InfoBytes here). Comments, originally due October 5, are now due November 4. The Fed said it granted the extension at commenters’ request to give interested parties more time to review the proposal and submit comments.
