FFIEC releases 2024 data on small business, small farm, and community development lending

November 21, 2025

On November 13, the FFIEC released a fact sheet and data tables for its annual report on small business, small farm, and community development lending data compiled by the OCC, the Fed, and the FDIC as mandated by the CRA. The 2024 data showed 731 lenders had reported originating or purchasing approximately 9.1 million small business loans totaling nearly $276.6 billion — an 8.1 percent increase in the number of loans and a 6.2 percent increase in dollar volume compared to the previous year. For small farm loans, about 197,000 loans totaling approximately $14.5 billion were reported, representing a 0.5 percent increase in the number of loans and a 4 percent increase in the dollar amount from the year prior.

According to the fact sheet, approximately 95 percent of small business loans were for amounts under $100,000, and over half of small business loans were extended to businesses with annual revenues of $1 million or less. The 2024 data also indicated that, as in 2023, lending activity remained concentrated in metropolitan areas. Community development lending exceeded $138 billion, a 9 percent increase from the previous year. The FFIEC also published aggregate reports on lending for each metropolitan statistical area and county across the U.S.
