FTC announces program allowing stakeholders to submit questions about ambiguities or conflicts in commission rules

September 18, 2026

On September 10, the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) announced a new program to allow stakeholders to submit questions about ambiguities, conflicts, or other significant issues within the FTC’s rules. Stakeholders may submit questions through an online form, which will route them to the appropriate staff within the bureau. If BCP decides a response is appropriate, it will publish the guidance to the public. The FTC stated that questions answerable by reviewing the text of the rule, existing guidance, or advisory opinions will not be addressed, nor will questions that seek to diminish a business’s own compliance responsibilities.
