Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac expand VantageScore 4.0 to all approved lenders
On September 9, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac announced the expansion of VantageScore 4.0 availability from a limited pilot to all approved lenders for single-family mortgage origination and delivery, effective immediately. The coordinated expansion, issued under the guidance of the FHFA, allows all Fannie Mae- and Freddie Mac-approved sellers to use VantageScore 4.0 from each of the three major credit bureaus without prior written approval when originating and selling eligible loans. Both GSEs confirmed that their automated underwriting systems — Fannie Mae’s Desktop Underwriter and Freddie Mac’s Loan Product Advisor — have been updated to support VantageScore 4.0. The announcements specify that lenders may select either Classic FICO or VantageScore 4.0 for an eligible loan but must use the same credit score model for all borrowers on a single mortgage. Manually underwritten loans must continue to use Classic FICO and comply with applicable minimum credit score requirements. Both GSEs noted that FICO Score 10T is not currently eligible for delivery and that additional guidance will be provided when it becomes available. Both GSEs updated their respective pricing matrices to reflect applicable loan-level price adjustments and credit fees for loans delivered using VantageScore 4.0, and both stated their selling guides will be updated at a later date to reflect the new requirements.
