California privacy agency opens comment period on regulations

On May 9, the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) announced it opened the formal public comment period for its proposed regulations concerning updates to the California Consumer Privacy Act. The proposed rules would regulate cybersecurity audits, risk assessments, automated decisionmaking technology, and insurance companies. The CPPA board approved the modifications through a unanimous vote on May 1 and encouraged the public, the business community, consumer advocates, and other stakeholders to participate in the rulemaking process. The public comment period will remain open until June 2.
