On February 20, the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) brought an enforcement action against a Florida-based data broker for allegedly failing to register and pay an annual fee as required by the Delete Act. The action sought a $46,000 fine against the company, which registered 230 days late, after being contacted by the Enforcement Division of the CPPA during an investigation. The CPPA’s enforcement division has pursued six data brokers since launching a registration compliance sweep, with the first five cases resulting in settlement. As previously covered by InfoBytes, the CPPA announced an investigative sweep in October 2024 to ensure data brokers comply with the Delete Act.
