CFPB files emergency ex parte application to stay active case

February 7, 2025

On February 3, the CFPB filed an emergency ex parte application in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to stay proceedings in a case against an online lending platform. As previously covered by InfoBytes, the CFPB sued the online lending platform in May 2024 alleging the defendant violated the CFPA and the FCRA. Now, under the new administration, all work under the CFPB has been stopped reportedly, including all litigation efforts, and the Bureau has requested to pause deadlines set in this court’s schedule (docket number 2:24cv4108). The defendant opposed this emergency ex parte application on February 4, and the judge denied the CFPB’s application to stay for no good cause shown (via a docket text entry).
