EU-U.S. Joint Financial Regulatory Forum discusses financial regulation and stability
On December 10, the Treasury issued a joint statement from the EU-U.S. Joint Financial Regulatory Forum, which took place from December 4-5 and was co-chaired by the Treasury and the European Commission, with participation from various financial regulators in the U.S. and EU. The discussions focused on seven themes: (i) market developments and financial stability; (ii) operational resilience and digital finance; (iii) financial data sharing and reporting; (iv) anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism; (v) sustainable finance; (vi) banking and insurance; and (vii) capital markets. Participants emphasized the importance of international cooperation and dialogue in addressing financial stability vulnerabilities. The forum also explored the use of AI in financial services, regulatory proposals on consumer financial data management, and developments in anti-money laundering. Additionally, the forum covered sustainable finance initiatives, updates on banking regulatory frameworks, and capital market reforms.
